How are
the diamond segments fixed to the drill or saw?

If the tool is used with coolant then the segments
are usually brazed to the tool body. If the tool is used without
coolant they would be laser welded to the tool body as the weld is
much stronger and can withstand the higher temperatures generated
when cutting without coolant. In some cases for smaller tools, the
segments can be directly sintered to the tool body, this is a
lower cost method of fabrication but the overall size of the tool
must be compatible with the sintering furnace. |
